Columbus Campus

Incoming freshman, transfer students, and current COF scholars must attend/complete the following during the semester: 

  • Attend COF Welcome Orientation Meeting (Autumn) and COF Follow Up Meeting (Spring). 
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher each semester. 
  • Complete 45 hours of service (2-3 hours per week) each semester. How can you get your hours in
  • Complete necessary COF paperwork (e.g., Qualtrics forms, surveys, Carmen Canvas tasks, etc.) each semester.
  • Timely response and communication with OHSE staff as requested.
  • Attend and/or participate in the Co-op, Internship, and Research (CIR) sessions each semester.
  • Attend and/or participate in the Annual COF Scholar Showcase (Spring). 

There are five steps for renewing the COF scholarship: 

  • GPA review (each semester). 
    • Must maintain a cumulative 3.00 GPA or higher.  
  • Service hour review (each semester). 
    • Must complete 45 hours per semester of service (2-3 hours per week). 
  • Scholarship Universe (between January and February).
    • Complete the Student Financial Aid Scholarship Application.
    • Complete the College of Engineering application (if applicable). 
  • Complete the End of the Year survey (by the end of Spring semester). 
    • Activity and program review. 
  • Complete the Statement of Intent (Summer). 
    • Acknowledge and accept scholar expectation. 

Students in the COF scholarship program must complete at least one work-based learning experience before graduation. Work-based learning opportunities are designed to provide authentic learning experiences for students to link academic knowledge with technical and professional skills. Business and education partners work together to evaluate and supervise the experiences. Types of work-based learning experience includes but are not limited to:

  • Paid internship.
  • Unpaid internship.
  • Paid research experience.
  • Unpaid research experience.
  • Cooperative education experience (Co-op).
  • Supervised agriculture experience.
  • Clinical experience.
  • Working in a private laboratory or any other experience that connects classroom with employment.

The Ohio House of Science and Engineering engage and connect students with potential places to complete work-based learning experiences. Please note that this is not the same as the 45-hour service requirement each semester. 

Lima, Mansfield, Marion, and Newark Campuses

  • Attend and/or participate in the Virtual Co-op, Internship, and Research (CIR) sessions each semester.
  • Attend and/or participate in the Annual COF Scholar Showcase (Spring).
