Quentin Walker is a fourth year Choose Ohio First (COF) Engineering and Science Innovators (ESI-Engineering) scholar majoring Biomedical Engineering on a Premedical track at The Ohio State University. He decided to major in Biomedical Engineering because Quentin wanted to bring together his interest in medicine with his passion for building and problem-solving. During his undergraduate career, Quentin have been involved in three research programs. The first was with Discovery Lab Global working on a portable heart monitor, the second was a study abroad at King's College London working on a heart surgery robot, and most recently he worked on a wearable ultrasound device to monitor blood flow in the brain.
Outside of academics, Quentin is part of the Club Gymnastics team at Ohio State, a Team Captain for BuckeyeThon, and the President of the Medical Innovations Club.
Quentin will present his research experiences in the CIR Chat Session on Friday, November 17, 2023 from 3:00PM - 4:00PM in Smith Lab Room 1009 (SM1009).
Participating in the Choose Ohio First Scholars program, I felt encouraged to become more involved on campus. I feel I have made a greater impact in every organization I have been a part of. In the Medical Innovations Club, I started the year as a secretary. I had the simple task of writing the emails and managing the website, but because I wanted to see our club succeed, I stepped beyond my role. I connected the project directors with other organizations on campus, so the projects could reach more people. It was instances like this I highlighted when I applied for the President position for Medical Innovations Club. Now that I am President, I continue to develop our organization, so we can help others. Secondly, In Buckeyethon, I wanted to do more, so I became a team captain. I strove to lead by example, helping my team find ways to fundraise. It paid off because my team ended up raising more than $3,500.00. This also earned me another superlative as “Team Captain Sweetheart.” Outside of the student organizations I also earned scholarships by the required applications that COFS requires of its scholars. Specifically, the Kettering Biomedical Engineering Scholarship, which is only awarded to 10 students. The culmination of these scholarships has made it so I can attend my final year at Ohio State debt-free. In a way, this has allowed me to give back to my family who continue to support all of my educational endeavors.
