Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Lily Holstein is a fourth year Choose Ohio First (COF) Engineering and Science Innovators (ESI- Engineering) scholar majoring in environmental engineering. She was also a part of the Humanitarian Engineering Scholars at Ohio State. During summer 2023 completed an internship with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). Lily was working in the Division of Water where she focused in Dam Safety. The dam safety program at ODNR works to regulate existing dam structures all across the state of Ohio. Basically, the core purpose of the Ohio Dam Safety Program is to ensure human life, health & property are protected from dam failures (definition by ODNR: About the Ohio Dam Safety Program | Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ohiodnr.gov)). These regulations are determined by the Ohio Revised Code. Here, Lily was able to learn more about how different components of this structure such as dam classifications and hazards worked.

Lily Holstein will present her internship experience in the CIR chat session on Wednesday February 21, 2024 from 5:30pm-7:00pm in Smith Lab Room 1009 (SM1009).
