Summer 2025 Technical Sales Internship at Trane Technologies

Heather Brickman is a fourth-year Choose Ohio First (COF) Advancing an Inclusive Biotech Economy in Ohio (IBEO Engineering) scholar majoring in Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering with a minor in Biomedical Engineering at The Ohio State University. Heather is passionate about environmental sustainability and has a wide array of career interests in medical research, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and humanitarian engineering. This summer, she took a risk and accepted a unique position as a Technical Sales Intern specializing in controls at Trane Technologies in Columbus, Ohio. Despite Heather not having a previous interest in sales, she really enjoyed her time at Trane Technologies this past summer and recently accepted a full-time position starting June of 2026 as a Controls Associate Account Manager in the Columbus office. Working for one of the biggest leaders in the HVAC industry was an enriching experience like no other.

Throughout her summer internship, Heather had the opportunity to work hands-on with HVAC systems, support sales strategies, and gain a behind-the-scenes look at how Trane delivers sustainable solutions to customers. She worked on several small projects to streamline the sales process in her office, participated in a Technical Sales Case Competition against other interns across the country, designed controls drawings, selected equipment, and even made her first sale! From job site visits and customer meetings to selecting equipment and writing proposals, she learned what it truly means to sell value, build long-term partnerships, and work together towards a more sustainable world. This past summer was such an incredible experience - full of learning, collaboration, and real-world challenges that helped Heather grow both personally and professionally.

Additionally, the program provided access to valuable resources and supported my participation in work-based learning experiences, which allowed me to further expand my professional network and enhance my education. Ultimately, it was through these involvements and experiences that I was able to showcase my talents and secure a full-time job after graduation".
