Applications/Operations Analyst Intern @ Eaton

Anna Kerns is a third-year Choose Ohio First (COF) Excellence Fellowship in Computing (EFC) scholar majoring in Computer Science and Engineering at The Ohio State University with a specialization in Software Engineering. She is interested in software engineering, automation, and developing technology that improves the efficiency of large-scale systems. Through her coursework and internship experiences, Anna has been able to explore how software can be applied in different professional environments. In the summer of 2025, she worked as a Software Engineering Intern at Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) in Aiken, South Carolina. The following summer, she worked as an Applications/Operations Analyst Intern at Eaton in Beachwood, Ohio, where she continued developing her technical and problem-solving skills in an enterprise technology environment. During her internship at SRNS, Anna developed custom front-end extensions within IBM Rational using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS for teams supporting a nuclear facility with more than 10,000 employees. At Eaton, she worked with technologies including PowerShell, Power Automate, Power BI, and Azure Automation on projects involving SharePoint automation and enterprise data. Her work included helping automate processes across more than 170,000 SharePoint sites and contributing to a storage optimization initiative that reduced storage usage by approximately 25 terabytes. Through both experiences, Anna gained a better understanding of developing technology at an enterprise scale while strengthening her skills in software development, collaboration, adaptability, and solving real-world technical problems.

Impact of the Choose Ohio First Scholarship Program

"The Choose Ohio First Scholarship program has helped me feel more connected to the university community by giving me opportunities to interact with other students who share similar academic and career interests. Through the program, I have also been exposed to resources, professional development opportunities, and STEM experiences outside of the classroom that have helped me better understand how my coursework connects to real-world careers. These experiences have helped me become more confident in my career goals and have encouraged me to take advantage of opportunities outside of the classroom that strengthen both my technical and professional skills."
